Catherine's Traditional Festive Service of Carols Honours Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers supported by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the charity, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
