The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team is likely designing a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
