Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
