World Series Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate over 50 million watchers in the US, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB stated this represents the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game since the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series drew 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership was 16.1 million. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and Fox’s best playoff ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
